چکیده

Given an N -relay Gaussian Half-Duplex (HD) diamond network, can we achieve a significant fraction of the capacity of the full network by operating only a subset of k relays? This paper seeks to answer this question, which is also known as the network simplification problem. Building upon the recent result of Cardone et al., this work proves that there always exists a subnetwork of k = N − 1 relays that approximately (i.e., up to a constant gap) achieves a fraction N−1 N of the capacity of the full network. This fraction guarantee is shown to be tight, i.e., there exists a class of Gaussian HD diamond networks with N relays where the best (i.e., the one with the largest capacity) subnetwork of k = N − 1 relays has an approximate capacity of N−1 N of the capacity of the full network. Moreover, it is shown that any optimal schedule of the full network can be used by at least one of the ( N k ) subnetworks of k relays to achieve a worst performance guarantee of k N . The key step of the proof lies in the derivation of properties of submodular functions, which provide a combinatorial handle of the network simplification problem in Gaussian HD diamond networks.

On Joint Sub-channel Allocation, Duplexing Mode Selection, and Power Control in Full-Duplex Co-Channel Femtocell Networks

As one of the promising approaches to increase the network capacity, Full-duplex (FD) communications have recently gained a remarkable attention. FD communication enables wireless nodes to simultaneously send and receive data through the same frequency band. Thanks to the recent achievements in the self-interference (SI) cancellation, this type of communication is expected to be potentially uti...

Evaluating Response Modification Factors of Concentrically Braced and Special Moment Steel Frames in Duplex Buildings

Response modification factor (R-factor) is one of the seismic design parameters to consider nonlinear performance of building structures during strong earthquake. Relying on this, many seismic design codes led to reduce earthquake loads imposed to the structure. The present paper tries to evaluate the R-factors of conventional concentric braced frames (CBFs) and special moment frames (MRFs) in ...

On Element-Connectivity Preserving Graph Simplification

The notion of element-connectivity has found several important applications in network design and routing problems. We focus on a reduction step that preserves the element-connectivity [18,4,3], which when applied repeatedly allows one to reduce the original graph to a simpler one. This pre-processing step is a crucial ingredient in several applications. In this paper we revisit this reduction ...

Joint User Scheduling and Power optimization in Full-Duplex Cells with Successive Interference Cancellation

This paper considers a cellular system with a fullduplex base station and half-duplex users. The base station can activate one user in uplink or downlink (half-duplex mode), or two different users one in each direction simultaneously (full-duplex mode). Simultaneous transmissions in uplink and downlink causes self-interference at the base station and uplinkto-downlink interference at the downli...
